Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year! My goal is that every student will receive a high school diploma that they can be proud of and that will open doors for them in life. I look forward to working with you to make this a reality for all of our students!
To be successful in school please help us reinforce the following:
1. Attend school every day and be on-time to every class.
2. Bring school materials every day (books, notebooks, paper, calculator, pencil/pen).
3. Leave electronic devices at home (iPods, CD players, etc.).
4. Use cell phones only before and after school, and during lunch and passing periods.
5. Wear clothes that support the Dress Code. (Please see enclosure).
6. Get involved in school; band, music, drama, clubs, or sports.
7. Students will be enrolled in 6 classes and maintain A-G requirements for CSU/UC college entrance.
8. Every student will work toward being proficient on the California Standards Tests and pass the
California High School Exit Exam.
9. Seniors will be enrolled in 6 classes, usually including math and science courses.
10. As a reminder, there are NO Senior Ditch Days.
2009-2010 is going to be a great school year! If you have any questions, please call us at (626) 815-3490. We’re here to help.
Go Aztecs!

Recognition
Azusa recognizes students for many types of achievement including academic. Monthly, departments recognize students and invite their families to our staff meetings. Students who maintain a 3.6 or better grade point average on a 5.0 scale for a semesters work will be named to the Honor Roll.
All students graduating with the grade point average of 3.9 or better will be designated as Summa cum Laude. All students graduating with a grade point average of 3.0 to 3.89 will be designated as Magna cum Laude.
Parent Conferences
Parents should plan to meet with all of their student's teachers on October 24 and March 19. These Parent Conference Days are held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the gym. No appointments are required. The conferences are limited to five minutes per teacher. This is an important means for up-to-date information on your child's academic progress.
Grading Policy
Semester grades are reported at the end of the fall and spring semesters and become part of a student's permanent record. The fall semester normally ends in late January or early February and the spring semester in June. Each semester is broken into three segments called triads. The grades received at the end of the first and second triads are considered progress reports and do not become part of the student's permanent record. However, students and parents are encouraged to pay close attention to triad grades because they are an indication of what grade the student will receive at the end of the semester.
Mandatory Tutoring
Students will be required to attend mandatory tutoring after school on Tuesday or Thursday if they receive a grade of D or lower in English or Math. They will be required to attend for the entire triad until the grade improves to C or better. Please contact Mr. Sherman in the Instruction Office if you have any questions.
Tutoring is also provided in the evenings on campus beginning at 6:00 p.m. Please call Mr. Sherman for more information.
Homework
District and school policy provides that each academic course should have approximately 30 minutes of homework per night. Students in college prep classes will usually spend considerably more time on homework. Thus, each student who expects to earn a "C" average or better should devote a minimum of 90 to 100 minutes on homework each school night.
