Fire Safety at School

Remember to do the following during a fire drill:
Walk in a straight single file line out of your classroom.

Please do not run, fight, or fly on your way to the field.
Follow your teacher's instructions.
Fire drills are usually not long, so please be patient!

Fire Safety at Home

Do not play with matches. If you see someone playing with matches, tell an adult immediately.
If your clothes catch fire make sure you:

what you are doing.

to the ground, and cover your face.

over and over until the flames go out.

And as the Red Cross recommends, if a fire starts in your home, make sure you yell "Fire!" several times and get out immediately. Leave all your things where they are. Your family should have an emergency meeting place. That is where you should go. If you don't have an emergency meeting place, ask your parents to name one.

Earthquake Safety

When you are in the classroom, and start to feel an earthquake remember to Duck, Cover and Hold.

What do we mean?

1. DUCK: Duck or drop down to the floor.

2. COVER: Take Cover underneath something sturdy and strong like your table.

3. HOLD: Hold on to the table or cover the back of your neck as you keep yourself close to the ground.

After the shaking, exit the classroom and go unto the field where we practice our fire drills. Stay with your class until given instructions by a teacher.

Street Safety

Mr. Filly's Street Safety Tips

Remember to always be safe when crossing any street. I won't always be there but this is what you can do to stay safe.
1. Cross with an adult or older friend.

2. Whenever possible, cross streets where there is a stoplight.

3. Use the crosswalk when crossing near a corner. Watch for turning vehicles.

  • Stop at the curb.
  • Look left, right, left, and over your shoulder for traffic.
  • Continue looking for traffic as you cross.

4. When crossing the street, make sure you make eye contact with drivers to be sure they see you.

They also have plays for the children. They are however not free. Look for the occasional flyer in your box.
