General Information

Attendance

In order for students to be successful in school, regular attendance is necessary. Students need to attend school on time every day. When students are not in school, they miss important instructional material and concepts. Be sure your child gets plenty of rest each night so he/she comes to school energetic, alert and ready to learn. Plan vacations around school holidays. If your child must be absent, it is the responsibiity of the parent or guardian to inform the school of the reason. Parents must call the school office or provide the child with a note on the day he/she returns. Unverified absences are recorded as "unexcused."

Dress Code

Students must follow district guidelines listed below. The following items are not permitted to wear to school:

  1. Clothing that indicates an affiliation with a gang or intimidating group
  2. Caps, hats, bandanas, hairnets or visors
  3. Oversized pants that fall below the waist
  4. Baggy shorts with knee socks
  5. Belts with lettering or longer than waist appropriate
  6. Halter tops, tank tops, bare midriffs, see-through or fish net clothing
  7. Clothing that does not conceal undergarments at all times
  8. Skirts or shorts shorter than mid-thigh
  9. Clothing that suggests obscene pictures, wording, and/or drugs, alcohol, smoking, sex or violence
  10. Frayed or unfinished hems
  11. Thongs, thong-like sandals, steel-toed shoes or sandals without a back strap

Discipline

Paramount School encourages students to behave in a manner that is respectful toward themselves, their family and their school. By encouraging students to accept differences in others, Paramount students are expected to work cooperatively and solve problems in positive ways. We believe that students can make proper choices in regards to behavior but may occasionally need guidance in improving the choices they make. Paramount students are exposed to Character Counts and Project Wisdom programs. The six character traits that are highlighted at Paramount include: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship.

Homework

Paramount School believes that homework is an opportunity to promote teacher/parent/student relationships. By working together, we can develop the whole child through activities that reinforce integral parts of the individual classroom curriculum. Homework may be assigned in a variety of ways such as written assignments, visiting the library, independent reading, reading to your child, reviewing basic math facts, reflecting on current events, studying for tests and quizzes, hands-on activities, memorization or community activities or projects. The daily amount of time required for homework will vary from day to day and by grade level depending on the assignment and individual skill level.

Report Cards

Report Cards for student in grades kindergarten through fifth grade will be sent home at the end of each trimester.  In the early fall, students will receive a progress report.  The teacher will also have a goal setting conference with the parents and students.  This is a great opportunity to see how your child is progressing.

Paramount Elementary strives for academic success for all students.  We provide a safe learning environment and a strong academic program that focuses on reading, writing, and mathematics. Our reading program provides a balanced approach with integration of phonics and literature throughout all grade levels. Paramount’s writing program provides students with a systematic structure for learning writing skills as well as regular writing assignments appropriate at each grade level. Math concepts and skills taught reflect those identified in the state standards. History/social science, science, health, physical education, music and art are integral parts of the K-5 educational program.  We also provide an extensive intervention program for those students who may need a little extra help.
