HOME OF THE PANTHERS

Attendance
Attendance is a significant factor in school
success. If a student is going to be absent, the parent must
contact the school office at 815-5144 by 8 a.m. If the school
does not receive a call, then staff will call the home to
verify the absence. When returning to school after an absence,
students must bring a written excuse, signed by the parent,
to the first period teacher.
If a student needs to leave school during the day for a doctor's
appointment, etc., please send a note in the morning. Then
come to the office to call for the student. All students must
be signed out in the office. We will not release a pupil to
anyone except the parent or person(s) listed on the emergency
card.
Dress Code
The following items are not permitted for school attire:
- Clothing that indicates an affiliation with a gang or
intimidating group

- Baggy shorts with knee socks

- Halter tops, tank tops, bare midriffs, see-through or
fish net clothing
- Clothing that does not conceal undergarments at all times
- Skirts or shorts shorter than mid-thigh
- Clothing that suggests obscene pictures, wording, and/or
drugs, alcohol, smoking, sex or violence
- Frayed or unfinished hems
- Thongs, thong-like sandals, steel-toed shoes or sandals
without a back strap
Grading Policy
Each student will earn a grade point average based on his
or her progress reports at the end of each triad and on their
report cards at the end of each semester. The following 4-point
scale is used:
A=4 points
B=3 points
C=3 points
D=1 point
A grade point average of 2.0, as well as passing five classes,
is required for participation in extra-curricular activities.
For students who do not meet these standards, probation is
an option available in order to participate. Students whose
GPA is below a 2.0, but at least a 1.5, will be considered
eligible for probation. This type of probation may be used
only once in any academic year. A special note to eighth graders:
This eligibility standard applies to both Azusa and Gladstone
high schools. Grades earned at the end of the spring semester
will be used to determine fall eligibility in high school.
Homework
Daily homework assignments are one of the best means of school-to-home
communication and parents should insist on seeing classroom
work every day. Homework time varies from subject to subject
and averages approximately one to one-and-a-half hours per
night minimum. The Slauson faculty believes that homework
enhances student achievement, allows parents to participate
in their student's education, and establishes lifelong patterns
of learning at home. If your child says that it was completed
at school, please ask to see the work for your approval. Completed
homework assignments are a means of success in school and
future careers.
Study Skills Binder
All students are required to carry a three-ring binder and
maintain their assignment calendars on a daily basis. If students
lose their planner, it is their responsibility to purchase
one at the cost of five dollars. This is one of Slauson's
most important means of daily communication between the classroom
teachers and parents.
